iSHARE Foundation is a Dutch stichting (foundation) — a legal form that prohibits profit distribution. There are no shareholders. Revenues go back into scheme management, standardisation, and ecosystem development.

Membership fees and accreditation charges cover the cost of running the scheme — assessments, registry maintenance, legal framework, standards participation, and governance. No margin is extracted.

iSHARE does not issue credentials commercially. It certifies issuers and maintains the Trusted List. This neutrality is what gives the scheme its authority — no certified issuer competes with iSHARE for credential revenue.

The iSHARE governance structure includes certified parties, dataspace operators, public bodies, and civil society. Scheme rules are developed in the open, and certified parties have a seat at the table.

Once the ecosystem reaches scale, a small usage-based levy will be introduced on the Trusted Issuers Registry. This follows the model used by GLEIF for LEI registration and other trusted-list operators globally.

A Data Rights Credential may represent thousands of legal entities (e.g. data rights holders). The levy is €1 per legal entity per year — regardless of how many individual credentials are issued for that entity. Phase 2 timing is subject to ecosystem growth and governance approval.

Een Data Rights Credential kan duizenden legal entities vertegenwoordigen (bijv. datarechtenhouders). De heffing is €1 per legal entity per jaar — ongeacht hoeveel individuele credentials voor die entiteit worden aangemaakt. De timing van fase 2 is afhankelijk van ecosysteemgroei en goedkeuring door governance.
